The oeuvre of Tibor Csiky (1932-1989) constitutes an outstanding achievement in the new avant-garde of Hungarian sculpture in the 1960s and 1970s.

Though he was self-taught, his interest in the natural sciences and his systematic formal analysis of artistic problems coincided with the progressive trends of contemporary art.

Eager and broad-minded, Csiky consciously educated himself to know as much about classic avant-garde efforts as possible. In 1963 he befriended Dezső Korniss and Árpád Mezei, and later came in contact with the progressive “Zugló Circle.”
