The everyday visual experiences that surround us and the elements that influence them can hardly be called works of art or art in the usual sense of the word. However, they undoubtedly contribute to the aesthetic quality of the concepts. Street displays, advertising on billboards or products produced for promotional purposes are all part of our visual culture and sometimes in a less direct way, they shape it as well.<\/p>\r\n

Butcher papers can also be included in this category of products serving ordinary needs. They are a transition between greaseproof paper (parchment paper) and plastic wrapping (bags). Their visual world is simple packaging with reproduced graphics. Their elements usually contain the characteristics and attributes of the genre. The designs on them have no visual field, only a decorative order and a surface filling and decorative character. Their primary function is therefore that of packaging for meat and dairy products.<\/p>\r\n

Since 2004, G\u00e1bor Ferenc ‘Tatlin’ G\u00f6r\u00f6g has been collecting butcher papers as a (disappearing) phenomenon of metropolitan folklore. The occasion of the exhibition is the publication of a zine which contains some of the pieces of this extraordinary archive spanning almost two decades. The exhibition thus evokes the atmosphere of the collection and complements it with works inspired by it, reflecting on this familiar component of our visual language.
