On 21 August, Judit Angel, until now curator at M\u0171csarnok \/ Kunsthalle Budapest, will start at tranzit.sk. Conceiving new structures for tranzit.sk is for her already part of the curatorial work: \u201eI ultimately see exhibitions, projects, events, publications, and institution programmes as matters of design, as modalities of relationing art to society in a meaningful way\u201d, says Judit Angel. She is familiar with the ideas of tranzit as she has been a board member of tranzit.hu in Budapest since 2005. In her first projects she will focus on analysing the state, needs and potentialities of the Slovak art institution system. The first exhibition designed by her shall open in autumn.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Judit Angel is an art historian born in Arad, Romania. She graduated the Art History Department of the Art Academy in Bucharest and holds a PhD in contemporary art history from the Lor\u00e1nd E\u00f6tv\u00f6s University Budapest (2010). Between 1990 and 1998 she has been chief curator of the Arad Art Museum. Since 1998 she has worked as a curator at M\u0171csarnok \/ Kunsthalle Budapest.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Now, her next professional stop is Bratislava. Judit Angel: \u201eI\u2019m fascinated by the task of discovering the Slovak art scene, finding collaborators there, identifying the scene\u2019s needs and trying to elaborate viable responses to them. I believe that my Hungarian and Romanian background, my interest in Central Eastern European contemporary art and recent history will help the institution to play an important role in granting visibility to regional art practices within an international context. I\u2019m also interested in introducing projects\/works\/discourses which \u2013 due to their unique, innovative and\/or topical character \u2013 have a particular relevance in the local context.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Angel has curated exhibitions with Central East European and other international artists on various themes such as institution criticism, participatory art, art of the \u201870s and \u201880s, relationship between art, architecture, film, respectively art and education. In 1999 she was the curator of the Report exhibition (Dan Perjovschi and group subREAL), in the Romanian Pavilion at the Venice Biennial 1999.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

She is author of articles on contemporary art published in catalogues and reviews. Between 2000 an 2009 she worked as a correspondent for Hungary for Flash Art International. Between 2002 and 2007 she was the editor for Romania for Praesens (Budapest). Judit Angel has got the Lajos N\u00e9meth Award for curatorial work in 2008 and the AICA Hungary Award for curatorial work in 2010.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
