Procedure
Please use the online application for all entries.
In order to enter the applicant you must first register as a site user. Applications are accepted from individuals, groups, or collectives as well as recognised organisations or individuals acting on behalf of entrants. More than one work may submitted by the same artist/applicant, using a separate application for each work. Fields marked * are required.
No demo versions please – only completed works! While older works are eligible the Award is oriented towards new works, produced since January 01, 2009.
The evaluation by the jury requires excellent documentation of submitted works. Where appropriate, an explanation should be given as to which aspects of the works the jury should consider in particular. Preview video and audio material must be made available online, either within the artist\’s own site or embedded within a community channel. Supporting images and documents (PDF only) may be uploaded, to a maximum of 5 MB per submission.
Additional supporting material may be sent by post only if essential for preview purposes, not in lieu of the online applications themselves. Accepted hardcopy media for preview are DVD, CD-ROM or print publications. If submitting additional material, please include a print-out of your online application confirmation. Mailing costs will be borne by the entrant. Supporting material will be returned on request only and are subject to the following conditions: - submissions from Germany must have a stamped and self-addressed envelope enclosed. - submissions from abroad must have a 20€ bill (cash only) enclosed.
There are no entry fees for either competition. Incomplete or late entries will not be considered.
Award prizes are a total 10.000€ for the transmediale Award and Vilém Flusser Theory Award 2011. Notification of Award nominees will be made in October 2010, and prize winners will be announced during the festival in February 2011. Entries may also be considered for inclusion in the programme of either or both festivals.
Insurance
There will be no insurance cover for the material received. Should a work be damaged through the fault of transmediale only the material value will be reimbursed.
Customs Declarations
transmediale will only accept packages from abroad whose customs declaration forms have been completed correctly. Packages dispatched from outside the European Union must bear the following information: indication of the content plus the note “Not for trade – temporary loan for festival. Value = 0”.
Nominations and Festival Participation
The conditions of entry are valid for both transmediale and CTM (club transmediale). Entrants nominated by the Jury for the transmediale Award 2011 or the Vilém Flusser Theory Award 2011 will be invited to participate in the relevant festival programme. Return travel to Berlin and accommodation for each nominee (up to 3 nights European, up to 5 nights intercontinental) are provided. In the case of group nominations or where further support of any form for participation is essential the available resources must be supplemented by additional funding. Further support will be assessed on a case-by-case basis at the festival\’s discretion. It is the intention of transmediale and CTM (club transmediale) to show all nominated art works – in accord with the possibilities and limitations of the respective festivals to do so.
Language
Works submitted must be in English or German or have subtitles in either of these languages. Works in other languages must be accompanied by a text list or clear explanation in English or German.
