VICTOR VASARELY INTERNATIONAL ART CONTEST FOR ART IN PUBLIC SPACE

The South Transdanubian Chamber of Architects in the interest of strengthening the artistic performance of the city of Pécs, is announcing an art contest entitled “Victor Vasarely International Art Contest for Art in Public Space”. The aim of organising the Contest is to create a new and permanent work of art on one of the public areas designated in Pécs.
* In accordance with the \”city without boundaries\” concept of the European Capital of Culture program of Pécs, the project will be realised in the scope of an open contest, in which any artist may participate independently of their nationality. The topic of the contest will be determined in a preliminarily defined art concept , made by the curator Héctor Solari. The competition does not contain genre stipulations. A work of art of any genre may be entered in the contest. The work of art must be in harmony with the urban and socio-cultural correlations of the designated location.
* The organiser designates two locations as position for the work, but in accordance with the jury\’s decision only one work of art will be realised in the scope of the Contest.
* The locations designated in Pécs for the realisation of the project
1. Király utca – Búza tér intersection
2. Main square of Uránváros
* The work of art winning the Vasarely Contest will be granted the title of the Winning work of art of the Victor Vasarely International Contest for Art in Public Space
* The winning work of art will be granted a gross amount of EUR 5,000 (HUF 1,400,000).
* The winning work of art will be realised as a result of the contest.
* Presently a gross budget of EUR 40,000 (HUF 11,200,000) is available for realisation. The amount includes all costs incurred (calculated at an exchange rate of HUF 280/EUR).
* The best works of art selected as a result of the contest will be introduced in an exhibition and catalogue.
* In the year 2010 the Contest will be realised in the framework of the series of programs entitled ARCHITECTURE AND CONTEXT by the STCA.
* Applicants must deliver their proposals in person or by registered post as a package to arrive by 18:00 on 5. August 2010 at the following address:
