Open Call for artists (under 40) from the CEE region Chimera-Project is pleased to announce the launch of the second Chimera Art Award, this time with a focus on the Central-Eastern European region (CEE). The goal of the Chimera Art Award is to raise artists international visibility. Founder and name giver of the award is the Budapest based contemporary art gallery, Chimera Project. The sponsor of the award is Works.io, online artist portfolio platform. Both founders are committed to develop different professional tools and means to make emerging artists noticed and boost their career. In 2014 the Chimera Art Award received a great international attention: we received 546 applications with altogether 7749 artworks and the call has reached 74 countries. More about 2014 award winner and his exhibition: http://www.chimera-project.com/chimera-art-award/ The prize of the winner is an exhibition at the Chimera-Project Gallery together with the award-winner of another established fine art prize. The prize includes also an exhibition budget up to 1000 USD, an exhibition review and a professional account on the Works.io portfolio platform. Chimera Art Award has an independent international jury of art professionals. In 2015 the jury consists of Fabian Schöneich, curator at Portikus, Frankfurt, Katalin Spengler, art collector and art writer from Budapest, Nicola Trezzi, head of the MFA program at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem and Flash Art International editor at large. Application Requirements The application is open to any emerging to mid-career fine artists, under the age of 40, who lives and works in the CEE region. (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Belarus, Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova, Ukraine, Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania.) There are no restrictions in terms of media, production year, size, etc. Every artist will be judged by her/his professional portfolio based on the artistic quality of the portfolios. The portfolio must include a 1) selection of artworks, 2) a comprehensive CV and 3) an artist statement. The international jury consists of Fabian Schöneich, curator at Portikus, Frankfurt, Katalin Spengler, art collector and writer from Budapest, Nicola Trezzi, Nicola Trezzi, head of the MFA program at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem and Flash Art International editor at large. Applications will be only accepted via the works.io platform by creating a works.io online artist portfolio. Please note that after creating your portfolio, you explicitly have to apply to the Chimera-Award on your works.io dashboard. Only complete portfolios (containing selected artworks, cv and artist statement) get reviewed by the jury. Please note that the artist statement can be max. 600 characters and the artworks using the free version are limited to 20 works. Once applied, you may add changes to your portfolio till the official deadline, 1st August 2015. Artists selected for the shortlist (top 15) agree that the organizers promote their portfolio (including images of all artworks) via their media channels.The winner’s exhibition will be curated by Chimera-Project in close collaboration with the artist. The exhibition budget covers exhibition costs (transport of the works, eventually traveling and accommodation of the artist) up to 1000 USD. The winner artist cannot decide to skip the exhibition. Please save the date of the the indicated exhibition. The gallery encourages the winner to be present for installation and exhibition opening. In case the winner is not able to exhibit at all, the award (including the exhibition and also exhibition budget) will go to the second shortlisted artist.
