Kata Gaál is an experimental, autonomous artist who has developed a distinctive visual world. Her unique collage and montage techniques incorporate a wide variety of materials into her meticulously crafted works, creating detailed, relief-like surfaces. The objects and photographs that compose the artworks are given a prominent role: to capture and store the main inspiration, the memories from different life situations and periods, that define the artworks.

Most of Gaál’s works are inspired by her personal experiences, so she deals with current issues affecting everyone. The new works on show open up a more personal perspective to the audience, in addition to the socially critical tone that has been characteristic of her work so far.

The artist’s exploration of her own inner world adds a new level of meaning to the recurring themes of male and female roles, the importance of stereotypes as well as the relationship between mothers and their children.

Two parallel worlds appear in the self-analytical, reflective works: one being the crumbling image dominated by memories, the other one being the idyllic, natural environment, the two are closely linked.

The individual works condense a variety of perspectives at the level of their content as well. On the stage of everyday reality, uncertainty, dreams and fears appear. In the relationship between the individual and society, the tension between personal goals and community expectations unfold, while a transcendent layer of meaning seeks and attempts to articulate the meaning of existence.

The latest images are a meeting of art and fashion, where the materials used in the Cakó’s brand’s collections are brought to life in the works.
