Live Hungarian Painting in the Pesti Vigadó

18 October is the feast of St Luke, the patron saint of painters. Painting, as one of the most ancient spiritual activities of man, is still alive, enriching, questioning, evoking, stirring and soothing, illustrating, depicting and telling stories, carrying all that is most essential to human consciousness. Launched more than two decades ago, the annual Hungarian Painting Day programme has become one of the largest series of artistic events in the Hungarian cultural arena, with the Living Hungarian Painting exhibition at its centre.

For more than a month, the representative exhibition spaces of the Pesti Vigadó building will be filled with works by three generations of contemporary Hungarian painters, providing a broad overview of today’s trends. This will be enriched by an exhibition of glass painting and an exhibition of works curated by the Hungarian Painting Day Foundation. Three professional awards will be presented at the opening ceremony, supported by the Ministry of Culture and Innovation and the Hungarian Academy of Arts.
