Peter de Thouars was born in 1952 in Jakarta, Indonesia. His dual cultural background provides him with unique perspectives and leads him towards themes that still define his work today: migration, identity, spirituality, mysticism, intuition and connection. Her themes are naturally integrated into her creative journey, in which she strives to make the invisible visible.
During his studies at the Arnhem Academy of Art, he found inspiration in the radical ideas of Joseph Beuys and his students (e.g. Blinky Palermo), in their vision of art as a transformative force.
He rediscovered this force in the patterns and empty spaces of traditional Javanese batik fabrics and woodcarvings. His oriental roots bring a characteristic layering to his art, bridging the gap between traditional mystical philosophy and contemporary abstract art.
De Thouars’ abstract works reflect the infinity of the universe: white voids and deep colours intertwined with complex patterns. Everything is connected to everything, whether visible or intuitive, as if they were poetic meditations on time and humanity.
Tarkovsky’s work, imbued with his films and his thoughts, can be understood as a message that suggests that we are not alone, that we are not lost in an empty universe. Mystical paths and countless threads connect us all to our past and present.
His art invites us to contemplate: we are all part of a greater whole in which nothing exists in itself.
