In 2025, the Hungarian University of Fine Arts (MKE) will commemorate the 125th anniversary of the birth of Jenő Barcsay with a series of events. The opening event of the anniversary series will be an exhibition and award ceremony entitled Hommage à Jenő Barcsay, which will take place in the exhibition hall of the University named after Barcsay.
The exhibition will feature twenty-eight designs by twenty-six sculpture students who entered the Jenő Barcsay sculpture competition, as well as the winning design, the winning work by Dominik Bárdi, a graduate student, entitled Light Gate. The sculpture’s special feature is that it is carved from a large alabaster block, which is permeable to light. In addition to Dominik Bárdi, the other winners are Martin Wessel, Ditta Margit Sarfenstein and Virág Tatár-Kiss.
The opening event of the Hommage à Jenő Barcsay will also see the presentation of the Barcsay Prize, which is awarded every year by the Jenő Barcsay Foundation for Fine Arts. This year, three former students of the MKE will receive the award from the President of the Board of Trustees, Balázs Feledy: Zita Dávid, painter, Zoltán Kovács, sculptor and Orsolya Lia Vető, painter.
