Years ago, three bulbs planted in our own garden bloomed into more and more purple bulbous bulb flowers from spring to spring. I have been watching and photographing them for a long time. I have slowly been making a series of photographs, documenting the life of this strange flower using different techniques and from different angles.
However, I felt that this analytical work alone was a bit dry, not enough for an exhibition, so I asked my oldest friend, Eva Adorján, to respond to this theme in her own sensitive way with her textiles and poems. I hoped that my ‘austere’ material would soften sufficiently, becoming more lyrical, which is really appropriate for this flower. I hope that a more complete, more human and more receptive material is the result.
While it is an important milestone in our nearly 50 years (!) of friendship: We have done so much together, Évi has written many poems for my pictures and for events in our lives. We have had solo exhibitions, but never together. It was really inspiring to work together, to think together about this Iranian ornamental onion plant. You could say that we have gone from A to W on the subject (and in real life).
