The BME Department of Public Urban Design has a long tradition of thematic semesters, where participants of different years or courses research, design, get to know and love the given city or region. In 2023, foreign architecture students graduating from Nagykanizsa were very successful with their architectural “income”, followed in 2025 by Dunaújváros, with similarly beautiful diploma theses, which were highly rated by the committee. This year, the field of participants has been extended to include students who have completed a large, complex design project before graduation. A total of 15 architect candidates from nine countries on four continents designed various public buildings for interesting locations in Dunaújváros.
The selection process was greatly helped by Imre Szabó, the city’s chief architect, who supported and accompanied the work of the BME from the very beginning, with discovery walks, information, drawings, literature and critiques, not only locally but also on several occasions when he returned to the walls of the University of Technology.
For the graduates, student life will end on 30 June 2025, but this joint presentation will give graduates and students approaching graduation an opportunity that will be an experience of a lifetime – for all of us.
