András Petőcz is a poet and visual artist. Most of his recent works have been created on canvas. Using oil and acrylic paints, he creates “quasi” poems that question the difference between text and visible linguistic signs. What do we call writing, and what do we call visual signs? Where are the boundaries? When can we say that a visible linguistic sign system is “text,” and when can we say that it is “only” a visible sign that is almost impossible to express in words? Petőcz’s works are “border crossings” – graphics, “picture poems” that tell us that we are almost lost in the multitude of visible linguistic signs and that we are often unable to express in words or speech everything that surrounds us.
