Stephanie Maier’s installation Trial Lesson depicts the process of learning and growing up as a physical, emotional, and temporal search for traces. Between playful imitation and conscious expression, a space is created in which movement, form, and memory echo.
Videos, sculptures, drawings, photographs, and paintings enter into dialogue with each other, presenting movements, repetitions, and moments of transformation as universal experiences. At the center is a video that follows Maier’s 15-year-old son through various trial lessons—a microcosm of rhythm, practice, and change.
Trial Lesson invites us to recognize separation in the unfinished—a choreographed reflection on movement, experience, and constant change.
