The Veszprém Spring Exhibition, organized for many years by the House of Arts in Veszprém, will be held at the Dubniczay Palace exhibition space on a biennial basis—that is, every even-numbered year—starting in 2022. A new feature this year is the opening of a thematic exhibition related to the Spring Exhibition at the Csikász Gallery. This year, we are presenting the exhibition “Golden Ripening” by ceramic artist Orsolya Pattantyús and glass artist Gergely Pattantyús as part of the Spring Exhibition; in 2024, they won the award for the solo exhibition.
This year, the central theme of the Veszprém Spring Exhibition is “Arboretum.” The exhibition aims to approach this multifaceted, symbolic, and timely concept through the tools of contemporary art, providing a space for various forms of visual thinking. An arboretum (a word derived from the Latin arbor, meaning “living tree”) is primarily a plant collection or botanical garden serving scientific and aesthetic purposes, in which trees and shrubs are displayed in an organized manner, often in a park-like or natural setting. The arboretum simultaneously symbolizes the relationship between humans and nature, the intention to organize, care for, and preserve, as well as the diversity of the living world.
With this in mind, we announced our call for submissions, which received more than 300 entries. The submitted works were evaluated by a panel of experts (art historian Katalin Izinger of the King Saint Stephen Museum in Székesfehérvár and art historian József Zakar of the Lajos Kossuth Museum in Cegléd) evaluated the submitted works and selected the 102 pieces that we will be exhibiting in our institution’s galleries. This year’s selection is technically extremely diverse: in addition to traditional fine art techniques, it features textiles, glass, photography, camera-less photography, digital art, sculpture, video, electrography, ceramics, and various installations alike.
