Few curatorial situations could be more exciting than when two bodies of work are brought together through the parallel narratives of their creation. Such encounters simultaneously reveal the similarities and the connections that emerge behind the differences. Careers unfolding in different time periods, varying life circumstances, and fulfillments occurring at different paces can lead to the same questions, while the answers to these questions retain their unique, irreplaceable character.
The oeuvre of Mariann Imre and Sára Richter can be read as such parallels. These are threads running side by side, sometimes converging, sometimes diverging, yet ultimately forming a rich pattern. In this sense, “Stitching Time” not only provides the title of the exhibition but also serves as a metaphor for the encounter between the two bodies of work.
In Mariann Imre’s works, sewing organizes the fabric of time into a structure, while in Sára Richter’s works, it connects the stories of time. One sews together the impossible fabric, the other the impossible story. “Stitching Time” is also an image of the convergence of these two bodies of work: threads from two distinct times intersect within it, and from their similarities and differences emerges a shared fabric that transcends both artists’ personal histories.
