The exhibited works of Iga Maria Weyna summarise a three-year cycle of intimate performances in the context of the Wheatness me metaproject. During the project, the artist collaborated with three photographers, Agata Odolczyk, Justyna Solnica and Pamela Bachar. In addition to the videos and photographs, Weyna will also present a new performance piece at ISBN+.
Weyna’s work addresses different layers of personal relationships – family ties, individual identity and coexistence with non-human beings. In particular, the artist focuses on agricultural forms of oppression and how these can be reinterpreted for the sake of future collective co-existence. Her aim is to make the harvest a fruitful one for all involved. In her work, Weyna explores herself as a point on the Möbius strip that connects all beings.
The performances captured on camera follow three stages of decomposition, dormancy and rebirth. Through these, the artist explores the circular idea of saying goodbye to each chapter of our lives as we watch ourselves change. This change is a continuous journey imagined through a time loop or even parallel planes. Through her work, Weyna sees growing up as a continuum rather than a single moment.
