The exhibition presents works of art created by mothers. This fact alone might not seem significant. What is significant, however, is that these works could not have come into being without their children — this layer of their identity is reflected in their art in some way. Various perspectives emerge, ranging from difficult questions to playful lightness, but what’s important is that the child is — directly or indirectly — part of the artwork: as co-creator, inspiration, subject, or even cause. The raw experience of motherhood is present, as are works exploring attachment; the lack of time becomes tangible, the blurring of self boundaries, the pushing aside of one’s own needs — yet all of this is intertwined with the colorful, carefree world of children.
…and throughout, everything is permeated by that love which makes it worthwhile to put everything else on hold, at least for a while.
