The m21 Gallery in Pécs is presenting a large-scale exhibition showcasing nearly six decades of work by sculptor Sándor Kecskeméti. The exhibition, entitled The Material’s Response, focuses on sculptures, reliefs and, in particular, paper-based graphic experiments that were born on the border between ceramics and sculpture and are related to architectural thinking.

Kecskeméti began his career in the 1970s in the inspiring environment of the artist colonies in Siklós and Villány, where his artistic approach was fundamentally shaped by his sensitivity to natural materials, formal discipline, and spatiality. At the heart of his art is a dialogue with materialsin addition to chamotte and porcelain or stone and bronze, paper has also become an important medium through which miniature yet philosophical models of structure, layering, and space unfold.

The exhibition evokes not only his wellknown sculptural works, but also his delicate, laboratoryscale experiments, in which the movement of the hand, the resistance of the material, and the birth of form appear as a single process. Thus, The Response of Matter is presented to visitors not as a retrospective summary, but as an imprint of sensitive artistic thinking—where the common language of the hand, material, and space speaks quietly and timelessly.
