Longtermhandstand is pleased to present painter Gábor Pintér’s latest exhibition, Brilliant Patchouli Ideas (When the Dust Settled, the Time Came) with the title Quite Earthy, Green Scent. The new series reveals a painterly world built on the external observation of human relationships, the subtle vibrations of everyday coexistence, and the layers of lived time.
The works are defined by a coherent red-green color palette, which, through Pintér’s sensitive painterly language, evokes both intimacy and tension. The recurring space in the series is the kitchen: cooking as a shared ritual, as a metaphor for human encounters and time spent together, appears as a defining element in several compositions.
The concept of time appears in various forms. In a small landscape scene, for example, the inscription ERUTUF, reminiscent of Windows screensavers and readable backwards, stands out in the timelessness of nature – as a visual sign of the unpredictability of the FUTURE.
The largest painting in the exhibition is based on a scene of a woman bathing and a man getting out of a car and taking off his shoes. The composition is linked to the rest of the series by an unexpected, conceptual painterly gesture: a hand washing dishes, reminiscent of a Malevich Suprematist composition, transports the viewer back to the kitchen. The closing image thus appears as a concluding, yet thought-provoking act of cooking and being together.
What makes this exhibition special is that it is rare to see such a large number of small-scale works by Pintér; these intimate paintings delicately depict everyday situations and the invisible energies flowing between the characters.
