In motorsport, the term drifting refers to a driving technique where the driver deliberately oversteers, causing the rear wheels to lose traction while the vehicle remains just controllable.

Attila Pálfalusi’s installation captures the infinite moment of balancing between controllability and uncontrollability through fifteen mirrors that rotate around the suspension point.

The installation directs the attention from the vehicle – the actual means of movement – to reflection, to the reality that can be experienced in a state of change. A simultaneous examination of the continuous future and the continuous past in the finite present.

Looking into the mirror, we discover other mirrors, also locked in an act of loss of control. These, drifting in circles completely independent of each other, determined by their own speed, create an interconnected system of reflections in a single fleeting moment. This system, which appears and disappears again, can also be seen as an attempt to make sense of the possibilities of our own human relationships.
