Imre Bukta will present exclusively new works in his exhibition at Godot Gallery, where he will show both works on paper and oil paintings. In terms of subject matter, one could say they are genre paintings, but the artist’s art is much more than just life pictures of the Hungarian countryside.
Lately, his motifs have been simplified, the so-called ‘telling’ seems to have taken a back seat, but the saturation of his painting imbues even the most ordinary story – on a village street or at the bottom of a garden – with a transcendent sublimity. A village man riding a bicycle is an unremarkable, ordinary event for anyone else; for Buktas it is a spiritual phenomenon, a way of elevating the everyday.
