The exhibition European Graphic Art was first presented at the Kammerhof Museum in Gmunden as part of the Salzkammergut 2024 – European Capital of Culture program series.
Through the Gmunden Symposia on Concrete Art (1989 – Pilot Project for Constructive Trends – 2009), the city of Gmunden has been one of the most prominent venues for international dialogue on constructive, concrete, and conceptual art for decades.
The Galerie Lindner in Vienna played an important role in the presence of these art movements in Austria, working closely with the Gmunden symposia. There was a continuous professional relationship between the two institutions. The gallery was founded in 1985 and moved to its permanent location on Schmalzhofgasse in Vienna in 1993, where it operated until its closure in 2020. Its program was consistently defined by its commitment to constructive, concrete, and conceptual art.
Over the years, Galerie Lindner has published numerous graphic portfolios and a series of multiples, which can be seen in the exhibition alongside other works. Most of the artists featured in the exhibition have participated in the Gmunden symposia and other international exhibitions.
The exhibition European Graphic Art thus provides a comprehensive overview of the development of constructive, concrete, and conceptual art over several decades.
