Ágnes Szépfalvi (now Ágnes Uray-Szépfalvi) and Csaba Nemes’ legendary storyboards, two of which were created together in the 90s, will be on display in the Inda Gallery project room from 17 November to 26 January 2024.
The storyboards, used in film production as a tool for setting up individual scenes and planning the shot, were developed into an independent genre by the pair, who were experimenting with the painterly possibilities of visual storytelling in the early years of their artistic careers.
The series, born out of a combination of film, text narration and the narrative tools of painting, are now being presented in India with SONNTAG (Sunday), 1998 and L’AME EST UN MARCHEUR (The Soul Walks On Foot), 2001, each consisting of 33 episodes.
Together with the Szépfalvi-Nemes storyboard, which is also included in the Hungarian National Gallery’s TechnoCool exhibition, there are three such series currently on show in Budapest – all of them unique and well worth exploring or rediscovering.
