The theme of levitation in visual expression provides artists with an opportunity to depict the boundaries of the physical world precisely through their dissolution. Familiar idioms suggest that one should stand with both feet on the ground or cling firmly to one’s roots. But what happens when the accustomed, comfortable forces of gravity suddenly vanish—when physical boundaries expand or cease to exist?
The concept of levitation can be interpreted in numerous contexts: it may be an ecstatic state, a religious reference, or the subject of a philosophical inquiry. It can evoke a sense of freedom, lightness, and transcendence, or conversely, the experience of escape. The elimination, rearrangement, or inversion of physical forces opens up further intellectual layers.
In addition to existing works related to the theme, the exhibiting artists are presenting new pieces. The panel paintings and installations form a unified whole, reflecting upon one another.
Each work stands as an independent conceptual unit, yet together they reveal the rich and compelling layers of the exhibition’s central premise.
