“All you really need to know for the moment is that the universe is a lot more complicated than you might think, even if you start from a position of thinking it’s pretty damn complicated in the first place.” Writes Douglas Adams.
The exhibition – not being modest at all – appoints for itself such a position, which deals with models searching for the meaning of life and with cognitive strategies about the understanding of the universe.
Instead of any absolute theory, these models rather suggest some personal artistic strategies, which build up from studio leftovers their bizarre, cynical and humorous concepts about a system that drives everything.
These theories want to understand the world, want to make sense of the expanding universe, they want to construct their own galaxy from nothing, and also want to model the ’nothing’, at the same time they want to observe how these universes fall apart, moreover they want to rush into this collapse.
These models forecast their own failure, as they want to understand and categorize the unthinkable, and the main means for them to achieve this paradox aim are self-irony and doubt. As Dougles Adams writes elsewhere:
“There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory, which states that this has already happened.”
