Lina Bíborka Gacsályi is interested in the relationships between people, between people and their environment, and her main inspiration is the observation of these relationships. She is particularly interested in the influence of external influences on the psyche of the individual, and the theme of personal memory recurs in her work. Technical solutions are often subordinate to concept, working primarily with traditional graphic techniques, but often using analogue and digital photographic techniques.

The photo-based montage drawings in the series presented in the exhibition Hypnagogy also reflect a graphic approach. The series is an extension of an earlier work, Insomnia, which is based around the theme of the transition between wakefulness and sleep. The images in the exhibition start out with figurative elements of reality, which gradually evolve into threatening visions and nightmarish images.

The artist’s abstract compositions, inspired by his own experiences, offer the viewer the possibility of an individual, subjective interpretation.
