35 years ago, László Vass, art collector, collected several Hungarian contemporary artists (Imre Bak, László Balogh, Cardot Véra, Pál Deim, János Fajó, Tihamér Gyarmathy, István Haász, László Hajdú, Tamás Hencze, Katalin Hetey, Tamás Konok, Ferenc Lantos, Gyula Marosán, Dóra Maurer, Vera Molnar, István Nádler, Péter Paizs) to create works related to the artistic heritage of Jenő Barcsay. Since 1990, the resulting paintings have been exhibited several times in various cities to the public interested in geometric and non-figurative art.
In the spring exhibition of the Modern Gallery – László Vass Collection, five Hungarian artists – Barna Benedek, István Halmi – Horváth, Károly Szelényi, Bertalan Varga and András Wolsky – will show works reflecting the art of Josef Albers. The works on display have in common that they express the potential of the duality between the themes of homage to Albers and homage to the square through their own artistic means. Josef Albers (1888 -1976) was born in Bottrop, Germany, in Veszprém’s twin town, and became one of the most important exponents of modern geometric art and a renowned teacher of art history and colour studies.
