There is a war on. Violence in its many forms is bombarding our peace. The walls of seclusion are breaking down, and our lives are being exposed beyond repair. Outside and inside cease to exist, and only the outside remains.
The ivory towers come down and artists find themselves on one of the fronts. What they have painted on canvas will henceforth be painted on the walls of houses, and what they have painted on the walls of houses will be painted on their canvases in the moments of the cease-fire.
And when all hope is gone, the light at the end of the tunnel will come! The liberators are coming! But fortunately, these are not the ones who take everything, while killing as many as they can, but paintings! The world, the stories, the mood, the beauty of which liberates!
In drMarias’s latest paintings we see liberators: historical figures, revolutionaries, dictators, politicians who have claimed to be liberators; anonymous rebels who attack the old liberators as our new liberators; poets, artists whose art truly liberates us; religious, financial and other leaders who claim to liberate us from our everyday difficulties while doing the opposite.
This theatre of painting evokes the worlds of Warhol, Banksy, Le Rat, Schiele, Picasso, Adami and others, with artists ranging from Endre Ady and Attila Joseph to Stalin, from Petofi and Béla Lugosi to Marx, Lőrinc Mészáros and George Soros to the chimpanzees, to create a sense of liberation as a counterpoint to the global war unleashed and fuelled by the monkey instincts.
For today we have few liberators left but art.
