Jovian is a painter and graphic artist by training. He has been living in Budapest since 1982 and is the recipient of numerous scholarships and awards. He is known for his mixed-technique, conceptual works and has shown a keen interest in the relationship between visual and performance art.
His sensitivity to human fate and character, and his figurative and, in particular, portraiture, which also draws on his strong drawing skills, have accompanied him throughout his career. He is strongly committed to serialism and multi-part works of art.
With his paintings, which see the idea of passing in the allegory of the five senses, he is at once magical and photographic or hyper-realistic, symbolic and expressive, virtuoso mannerist and supremely classical.
It is precisely because of their technical virtuosity and the richness of their motifs that Jovián’s paintings make the viewer stop and then stay, reflecting on what he sees.
