Intermediate spaces

08. February 2026. – 05. April
MegnyitóOpening: February 7, 2026, 5:00 pm

Six artists, painters János Aknay, József Baksai, and Péter Bereznai, graphic artist Győző Sárkány, and sculptors János Kalmár and Tamás Szabó, approach the examination of the continuous dialogue between memory and material through different media and ways of thinking. The exhibition as a whole creates an intermedia, intermediate zone where the concept of memory does not unfold in a common formal appearance, but marks a meeting point; where, wandering between the visual linguistic manifestations of painting, photography, drawing, and sculpture, the depth of personal pasts, the openness of cosmic spaces, the rich variations of formal stratification and transformation, and the subtle imprints of everyday experiences become simultaneously perceptible.

The works featured in the exhibition offer a comprehensive selection of pieces created by the artists over the past five to ten years. This period not only reveals the development of each artist’s individual artistic path, but also highlights the thematic and formal directions that define their current thinking and modes of expression. The works on display thus offer both a retrospective view and a new perspective, summarizing the most important artistic endeavors of the past decade. A montage of structurally arranged natural scenes; meticulous, philosophically profound examinations of the movement of matter and form; a sensitive, expressive approach to time, memories, and individual narratives; constructive-geometric structures and expressively formulated portraits enter into a personal and universal dialogue with each other: they speak in the common language of painting, graphic art, and sculpture about man’s place in the world.

On the gallery level between the two exhibition spaces, visitors are welcomed by a complex multimedia and museum education space, where video interviews with the artists featured in the exhibition provide insight into the processes of artistic thinking. In this inspiring environment, visitors can engage with the world of abstraction not only as observers but also as active participants: through playful and experimental tasks, they can try out different forms of abstraction and abstraction, creating an enjoyable creative opportunity for children and adults alike, regardless of age.
