Imagine having a window that you can open and immediately return to a place of calm. In Alma Vetlényi’s solo exhibition, we can embark on a journey whose first great insight is that this place is first and foremost within us. Madeira means wood, and it also means embroidery with holes. The special power of an island lies in the fact that the solitude we experience there helps us to distance ourselves from the everyday, while opening up space for healing and compassion for ourselves.

Alma is embroidering new pathways while allowing herself to be present where she is. Closing and opening a chapter. An important element is connecting with nature and through that, letting go. Creating a new life is a painful and especially long process – like planting and caring for a tree – but we can be grateful to ourselves if we commit to it.

The exhibition uses photographs, paintings, written text and an interactive space installation to create a space where it is possible to take stock of troubling memories, to draw your own boundaries, to make a brave gesture of self-reliance and self-care.
