Mainstream architecture, in my view, is going in the wrong direction, it’s a dead end. The architectural slogans and watchwords of the last half century: the unity of function, structure and form; constructivism; modernism; metabolism; then deconstructivist or postmodern architecture and now minimalism; sustainable development; carbon footprint; zero energy consumption have ridiculed the perception of architecture, have brought our profession down to zero. Where is the proportion, the rhythm, the form, the ethos (Plesz A.)? Can we rethink the urban architecture of the last 50 years? Is there a raison d’être for orgaic town planning (L. Szőke) in a world of militaria that is essentially ‘military’? Is it possible to continue creating (I. Makovecz)? Is there a way to complement existing buildings and historic environments? Is there freedom to continue?
