We are in such a hurry! We’re in such a hurry! Everything is changing so fast! There is hardly time for a moment of contemplation! And yet, I think sometimes it would be good to slow down a little, to let the things we have perceived, experienced and learned settle in. Of course, it’s easy for me to say that, because I’ve staked my whole life on the slowest genre in the world, the queen of genres, tapestry weaving. It was love at first sight, true, honest love that has been weaving, weaving, weaving for decades… The colour frequencies take many months to come together in a picture. And a particular way of life has evolved, a way of life that is just about us, about intimacy, about secrets, about the nurturing power of silence, about the sensual pleasure of touching coloured threads, sometimes about suffering, about the seemingly monotonous, Sisyphean labour of work. For me, the process of creation is both real-time and timeless, the end result is made for timelessness. Secretly, though, I do believe that somehow my one or two sooty children touch the soul.
