As a founding member of OSAS – Open Structures Art Association, András Mengyán exhibits regularly at the Vasarely Museum. The artist, who continues to reflect the legacy of geometric abstraction and constructivism, is equally at home in the worlds of painting, object creation and multimedia installations. He graduated from the College of Applied Arts in 1968. His relationship with design has always remained, but his creative interests have turned to fine art.
His work is conceptual, geometric and serial in approach, embedded in a particular systemic approach. In the eighties, he created computer works and environments of pioneering importance in Hungary and internationally. In an innovative way, he combined the experience of space shaped by light, sound, film, mirrors and wires, actively involving the viewer in his works. His work is included in numerous national and international collections.
The monographic exhibition in the Chamber Room of the Vasarely Museum pays tribute to András Mengyán’s diverse and progressive oeuvre on the occasion of his 80th birthday. The exhibition presents a narrow selection of Mengyán’s paintings from the past three years, complemented by a brand new large-scale laser installation and two monumental sculptures. The material on display is deeply thought-provoking and offers visitors an unforgettable and spectacular visual experience.
