László Krasznahorkai’s consistently constructed texts, created with maniacal precision, ever more refined expressiveness and unbroken curiosity, create an unmistakable universe in a system of repeated motifs and intertwining allusions to role variations. His metaphysical, musically driven prose has a distinctive place in contemporary Hungarian literature, and his presence in world literature is unbroken. His novels depict the spiritual decline of the world, the existential loneliness of man, the futility of the search for meaning, with apocalyptic visions and grotesque tableaux, while his essays explore the limits of beauty, transcendence and human aspiration with philosophical curiosity.
