The title of the exhibition, Art-memorial-art, has several readings. As a playful and provocative combination of words, it also includes the concepts of memory and monument.
The starting point of my work is the study of the relationship between public art and its environment. By environment I mean the built environment and at the same time the influences that add to or modify the meaning and perception of the work.
My main focus is on looking at the different impacts on monuments. These include natural processes such as the passage of time, natural erosion, but also social changes that morally erode or renew the work.
Alongside this, there can be conceptual and meaning changes, and over time the ability to understand the original meaning or intention, the background knowledge, can disappear.
