Great Motifs is a collection of works that have rarely or never been shown to the public. Usually, when I am preparing for an exhibition, I make my paintings based on a theme that I have thought of, but between two thematic exhibitions I paint something that is not related to any of the themes but that interests me very much.
While collecting these works for this exhibition, I realised that in a sense, themes, locations and motifs often recur and recur in my painting. For example, family paintings, paintings of dwarfs in the garden, or paintings of Hungarians arrowing backwards, horses holding their hooves to the sky, and psychedelic paintings. I have also made two sculptures based on my earlier paintings.
