The Hegyvidék Gallery presents a small taste of a new slice of the Antal-Lusztig collection, entitled “Eight and Activists”. The group of avant-garde artists called the Eight came on the scene at the beginning of the 20th century (1909-1919), its members (Róbert Berény, Dezső Czigány, Béla Czóbel, Károly Kernstok, Ödön Márffy, Dezső Orbán, Bertalan Pór, Lajos Tihanyi) were searching for new forms of expression, closely linked to the European New Trends. The activists associated with Lajos Kassák also came up with new artistic ideas, but they promoted a much more radical programme. The exhibition will also feature a work by each of these artists, alongside Lajos Kassák, Sándor Bortnyik, Béla Uitz, József Nemes Lampérth, János Kmetty and János Mattis Teutsch.
