I have always been interested in abstraction in painting. (…) Abstract thinking is a common surface that can connect different cultures, for example. It is a universal thing that we all use. Numbers and language, for example, are abstractions (…) We have the speech centre in one hemisphere of our brain and the visual skills and creativity in the other, and sometimes it’s difficult to cross over. There are terms and concepts that we cannot express through language but we can understand through our other experiences. That’s why art is fantastic, because we can convey something that words cannot.
