The exhibition showcases the artistic works of self-taught artists who, over decades, have created independent visual worlds beyond conventional art norms. These artists are driven by a unique inner urge to express themselves through visual and photographic media—conveying their emotions, passions, anxieties, obsessions, likes, and dislikes—while producing works that approach the essence and pure form of art.
The Paris-based Bruno Decharme Collection consists of such aesthetically significant photo brut works, created by individuals free from academic influence and the trends and expectations of the art market. The exhibition spaces of the Capa Center are filled with over 150 of these works, which, like most authentic art brut pieces, encourage us, image by image, to rethink and unlearn what might seem evident in the history of art and photography.
The exhibition is realized in collaboration with Foto Arsenal Wien. The corresponding conference will be held in Budapest in spring 2026 as a joint organisation of the Robert Capa Contemporary Photography Center and Foto Arsenal Wien.
