PAINTED RAG
a by-product of the creative process
Or maybe not?
These painted pieces of fabric were forged together by human intention and divine coincidence, in the light/shadow of indirect consciousness, as they were created while another picture was being made. The choice of colors is conscious, but where and to what extent they end up on these discarded pieces of canvas is completely random. A paint stain may come into contact with the rag when I wipe the paintbrush, wipe the work table, wipe the easel, or wipe the paint container with it. Thanks to this, the composition is completely spontaneous and random, free from any kind of pattern or constraint, as well as from the slightest possibility of objective representation. Undisturbed, uncontrolled creative freedom is perfectly ensured, which is the most important criterion for creating something new and daring. In this case, chance plays a decisive role, but in the right proportion it is still controlled, and this is precisely why these paint rags, these “accidental images,” can become works of art.
The main character of my earlier works, the seated, stereotypical, pictogram dog, has fallen out of the picture. Deprived of its safe, geometric environment, it now returns to the “rags” in a dramatic size, stripped bare.
