Konrád Kaszás’s line-controlled paintings, which previously consisted mainly of sketches evoking large, uniform color surfaces separated by contours, are now inspired by a much more concrete visual world. They themselves paint much more concrete shapes. The form-creating band that traverses the surface, fattening and avoiding itself, has grown until it has taken on its own shape and become a form-creating, sign-creating tool in the artist’s hands. Rules and systems were born in the images, sometimes reminiscent of ancient masks, sometimes of flames, and sometimes of plant patterns.

What they have in common is that they create an effect similar to that of shapes made of malleable material dynamically transforming into one another and taking on multiple meanings at once, while also being interpretable as abstract compositions. In contrast, the pure colors do not blend into each other, do not mix, and do not vary tonally, but are separated from each other with clean minimalism. The pastel colors that were previously characteristic have given way to deeper, more saturated tones. Sharp contours and impasto surfaces characterize the wilder paintings.
