Béla Uitz was an important artist of modern Hungarian painting, co-editor of the magazine “Ma” and brother-in-law of Lajos Kassák. The new exhibition at the Kassák Museum presents a single segment of Uitz’s oeuvre and explores the interactions and sources of inspiration that led to the monumental cycle of paintings known as the “Icon Analyses”. In addition to Uitz’s works, we will also present orthodox icons whose iconography may have been a starting point for the creation of his abstract compositions. For the first time, the exhibition presents a photographic collection of one hundred works from the artist’s estate, providing a representative cross-section of Russian Constructivist art, with reproductions of many now lost paintings.
