Ákos Bánki’s paintings in the exhibition Finger-paintings continue his series entitled The Dream of Dionysus, in which colour is transformed into a homogeneous, almost monochromatic space. The specially prepared paint material for these paintings contains a lot of resin, which gives the acrylic a full-bodied, lively quality that creates depths and heights on the canvas without blending in.
On the surface of the canvas, the light plays a constant game with colour and form, and the material vibrates in constant transformation. The painter experiments with the material dimension of the image. The visitor is immersed in the world of the paintings by exploring the layers and textures of these homogeneous spaces.
In the summer of 2024, Ákos Bánki’s fourth solo exhibition will be on view at the K.A.S. Gallery. He will return to his familiar large scale, but visitors will also be able to see some of his earlier small-scale monochrome works.
