Sketch or finished work? At what point does an initial idea cease to be a sketch and become a completed work? In the process of making, we always try to preserve the freshness of the sketch, the striking momentum of the first thought. But what happens when the sketch suddenly turns into a finished, exhibitable piece?
Some of the works on display retain the immediacy and vitality of the sketch, while others are overtaken by layers piling up into a decadent avalanche of detail, leaving only faint traces of that original sweep.
The exhibition presents a selection of works by students from the classes of Dániel Horváth and Patrick Tayler at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, with the participation of the masters and of József Gaál, who led the latter class until last year.
