The meeting of heaven and earth is the horizon, the field of vision that defines our view of the world. The vertical direction can be derived from the force of gravity originating from the Earth, which our entire human being, spirit, and nervous system have been built to overcome.
The character of Ákos Bánki’s new series is formed by lines drawn with repetitive monotony, from whose system the paint overflows and whose strict laws are overturned by the overwhelming vitality of colors. Instead of the expressive energy fields that have characterized his painting to date, the painter focuses on the poetics of pure form. With his concentration, he dominates the material and controls the helpless nature of paint against gravity, transferring the free will of letting go and holding on to the lifeless material.
Ákos Bánki elevates the intuitive forms he has used in his painting to date to a transparent painterly concept in his latest series, which is on display at the K.A.S. Gallery. As in writing, he fills the canvas with colors from bottom to top with his gestures drawn from left to right, then, with the passage of time, creates a space-time in which the perception of the world becomes an eternal game.
