It is more than ten years since the Budapest City Gallery last presented the results of its collecting activities: an exhibition and a catalogue were published on the period 1996-2012. A few years later, during the pandemic, a series of virtual exhibitions of new works added to the collection was launched.
This time, we are planning two exhibitions of the acquisitions of the last ten years: the first will feature works of art related to Budapest and the history of its squares, from several periods, including a selection of contemporary endeavours. The works will be arranged along conceptual pairs that outline the functions of museums, the preservation of objects, the stories they tell and their implications for the politics of memory.
