Through five forgotten works in the collection, the exhibition explores the artistic, social and ideological position of the artists, as well as the cultural and political expectations of the period and the economic background of textile art in the 1960s and 1970s. The micro-histories presented here complement, nuance and sometimes modify our understanding of the period. The exhibition, the third in the Out of the Warehouse! series, explores the different aspects of a particular work of art through case studies, thus contributing to a deeper understanding of the objects.
The exhibition is the third in the Out of the Warehouse! series of the Budapest City Gallery. The aim of the series is to highlight and present the works of women artists in our collection, so we have presented a rich selection of works by mostly unknown or forgotten women artists in the two previous editions. In this exhibition, we have taken as our starting point only five textile works recovered during the collection revision, and have tried to outline the historical, political, artistic and institutional contexts around these objects.
