The Bricks, though silent, are not mute. They know difficult stories. The Bricks, as much-seen phallacons, know the grief of Mrs. Kelemen of Stonecutter intimately. They also know Mrs. Clement’s cub, who grew tired of his mother’s silent lament. For him, and with him, they break the wall and its silence.

The aim of the exhibition, which is based on the winning entry for the Kassák Prize for Contemporary Art last year, is to use the socially critical interpretation of the folk ballad Kelemenné Kőmíves Kelemennes as a starting point for reflection on the relationship between the individual and the community, its framework and the power relations that determine it.

Dorottya Szonja Koltay’s works, arranged in a living, moving, changing installation, make the exhibition space a stage, a playground, a working diary of the creative process and a discursive space where the viewpoints of the audience can be transformed into both playing and creative positions. This change of perspective will be brought to life during the exhibition through participatory art actions, a series of performances, collective singing and dancing.

The exhibition is supported by the Kassák Prize for Contemporary Art 2024.
